Vintage T-handle timber auger with original wooden handle. This style of hand drill was used for boring holes in barn beams, posts, and heavy timbers. Lightly cleaned and oiled by me, with the original dark patina left intact.

Details

  • Overall length: approx. 19 inches
  • Bit diameter (across the flights): approx. 1 5/8 inches
  • Handle length: approx. 17 1/2 inches
  • Materials: steel auger bit, hardwood T-handle
  • Age: likely early 1900s based on style and construction (exact age unknown)
  • Includes a small printed care sheet with tips for storing and maintaining vintage tools.

Condition

  • Vintage / used condition with scratches, small dings, and pitting from real use.
  • Loose, flaky rust and grime were removed by hand; the metal now has a stable, dark patina.
  • Screw point and cutting lips were lightly touched up so the tool will still bite into wood.
  • Handle is solid and secure with no major cracks or soft spots.
  • Finish on the handle is a light refresh (sanded just enough to remove roughness, then oiled).
  • This is an original vintage tool, not a modern reproduction.

Use & Display

  • Great as rustic farmhouse, cabin, barn, or workshop decor.
  • Can be used for light, occasional boring in softwood by someone familiar with hand tools.
  • Sold as a vintage item with honest wear and character – please see all photos for close-up views of condition.
