Item Details

This listing is for one vintage Eagle metal oil can with original red painted body and rigid spout. The top is clearly stamped “EAGLE MADE U.S.A.” and the can has the classic straight-sided shape with slightly domed shoulder. It’s a great size for a machinist’s bench, small engine work, or as an industrial accent in the shop, office, or man cave.

Condition

This oiler shows honest vintage use with light dings, scattered paint chips, and small scratches in the finish. The metal top and spout have been cleaned of active rust and show a smooth, even gray patina with the Eagle stamping still nice and crisp. The spout is straightened but retains a bit of working curve and the tip is rounded and smooth.

The rubber gasket and threads are in good condition – the cap turns on smoothly and seats well. There is one tiny pinhole at the shoulder that has been sealed internally with 2-part metal epoxy and tested leak-free with mineral spirits. The bottom seam is solid with no leaks.

Restoration Performed

I specialize in gently restoring vintage hand tools for use and display. For this oiler I:

• Cleaned the body of dirt, grease, and residue while preserving the original red paint
• Removed surface rust from the top and spout and left a smooth, even patina
• Located and sealed a tiny shoulder pinhole from the inside using 2-part metal epoxy, then re-tested with mineral spirits
• Gave the interior a light film of mineral oil for protection
• Wiped the exterior with Ballistol and finished with paste wax for a dry, satin feel

All work is done by hand in my small shop. I include a printed care sheet with every tool.

Use & Care

This can is suitable for light shop oil or simply as vintage decor. I do not recommend it for gasoline or aggressive modern solvents. Wipe with a soft dry cloth as needed; avoid soaking the painted surface in harsh cleaners. A thin coat of paste wax once or twice a year will keep it looking good.

Etsy requires a specific decade; this piece is listed as 1960s, though the style is typical of mid-20th-century Eagle oilers (roughly 1940s–60s).
