Vintage Stanley No. 107 12” wooden level
USA-made carpenter’s spirit level & shop decor

Solid little 12” Stanley No. 107 wooden level, made in the USA and freshly cleaned, oiled, and waxed. The vial is intact, reads true on a flip test, and the wood body has a warm mid-century patina with honest dings from use. Ready to hang in the shop, drop in a toolbox, or add to a vintage tool display.
Full description
Tool details
- Maker: Stanley, Made in U.S.A.
- Model: No. 107
- Size: 12” long
- Construction: Wood body with steel vial plate and glass spirit vial
- Era: Mid-20th century, likely 1940s–1950s (Etsy decade set to 1950s)
This compact wooden level was a staple in carpenters’ toolboxes for decades. It’s small enough to keep on the bench but accurate enough for everyday layout, and it looks great displayed with other vintage tools.
Condition
- Vial is intact with clear fluid and a freely moving bubble.
- Passed a flip test on a flat reference surface and reads true for general carpentry use.
- Wood body is solid with no structural cracks; ends are clean.
- Shows scattered small dents, stains, and marks from normal use.
- Small chip at the edge of the lower side viewing window; edges have been smoothed and it’s purely cosmetic.
- Steel plate shows light, even wear but the STANLEY / MADE IN U.S.A. / No. 107 markings are sharp and easy to read.
I aim for “clean and functional vintage,” not a polished or re-finished look. Expect a working tool with honest character.
Restoration work performed
- Light dusting and mineral spirits wipe-down to remove grime.
- Gentle hand sanding to smooth raised fibers while preserving original edges and wear.
- Wood body treated with a thin coat of boiled linseed oil, then finished with a beeswax wood balm and buffed to a dry satin feel.
- Steel vial plate cleaned with Ballistol and a fine abrasive pad, preserving the factory stamping.
- Metal protected with a thin coat of paste wax and buffed.
- Final flip test to confirm the level still reads true after cleaning.
Ideal use
- Functional vintage level for light carpentry and woodworking.
- Wall and shop decor – hang it above a workbench or display with other hand tools.
- Great small gift for a woodworker, carpenter, or vintage tool collector.
