Tool Details

This vintage 9-inch adjustable wrench was manufactured by Fairmount Tool & Forging of Cleveland, Ohio. The forged handle is clearly marked “FAIRMOUNT CLEVE.” This style is commonly described as an adjustable auto or monkey wrench.

I believe this example dates to the early 20th century, likely around the 1920s–1930s, although an exact production year has not been established.

Condition

Good vintage condition with the expected wear, discoloration, small areas of pitting, and dark patina from decades of use and storage. The jaws, rack and adjustment mechanism are intact, and the adjuster operates properly through its range.

Restoration

This wrench received a conservative preservation rather than a bright-metal restoration. It was cleaned to remove loose rust and accumulated grime, the mechanism was cleaned and lubricated, and the steel was oiled and waxed for protection. Original surface character, tool marks, staining, pitting and age patina were intentionally retained.
