Vintage EZ Cutter Drawknife
8” Straight Blade, Black Turned Handles – Sharpened & Ready to Work

Vintage EZ Cutter Drawknife – restored, sharpened, and ready to pull shavings.
This mid-20th-century EZ Cutter drawknife came out of an estate shop and cleaned up into a solid working user. It’s a straight-blade pattern with turned wood handles and a clearly stamped “EZ Cutter Warranted” logo on the spine.
I go for clean, stable, and functional – not polished-to-new. This one still shows honest shop wear, patina, and a few age spots, but the edge is sharp and it’s ready to go right to the shavehorse or bench.
Dimensions (approx.)
- Cutting edge: ~8 in
- Blade height: ~1 1/2 in
- Overall width, handle to handle: ~14 in
Condition
- Blade is straight with no cracks or chips.
- Original dark handles are tight with no structural cracks.
- Black finish on the handles shows honest wear, small dings, and rub-through spots from decades of use.
- Steel shows stable patina and light pitting/staining here and there, especially away from the edge.
- EZ Cutter logo stamp is crisp and easy to read.
- A few tiny flecks of old red paint remain in deeper wood divots – left in place to avoid over-sanding the original handles.
Please review all photos – they’re part of the description and give the best feel for the tool’s character.
Work Performed (by Moab Maverick Tools)
This drawknife was completely gone through before listing:
- Full wipe-down with mineral spirits to remove dirt and grease.
- Carefully removed user-applied red paint from ferrules, tangs, and handles (acetone and Q-tips), leaving only tiny remnants in deep divots.
- Handles hand-sanded with 320 grit to smooth wear without erasing age.
- Rust removed with 3M abrasive pads and WD-40, keeping the original patina and preserving the raised stamp.
- Edge re-shaped and sharpened through progressively finer abrasives, then test-cut on clean wood.
- Handles treated with boiled linseed oil (BLO), wiped back, then finished with a beeswax balm for a dry, grippy feel.
- Metal treated with Ballistol and finished with paste wax for protection in storage and transit.
It’s not a museum piece – it’s a vintage user that’s been tuned up so you don’t have to start from scratch.
Use
Great for:
- Chair and stool work
- Edge-joint cleanup and tapering
- Green woodworking on a shavehorse
- General shop shaping and debarking
As with any edge tool, use common-sense safety: keep fingers clear of the edge, cut on a stable workpiece, and store with the edge covered.
Shipping & Packaging
- Ships well-padded in a sturdy box.
- Blade will be oiled and wrapped for protection.
- I’m happy to combine shipping on multiple tools when possible – message me before checkout.
