Vintage Disston D-15 “Victory” hand saw with the iconic eagle and Liberty Bell etch, featuring a lightweight 20” straight plate and carved hardwood handle.

This saw has been cleaned, sharpened, and test-cut, and is ready for use. The plate is straight with no kinks or hinges, the original Victory etch remains strong and fully legible, and the handle is solid and comfortable in the hand. It has been conserved, not over-restored—the steel retains its honest gray patina rather than a polished modern look. A printed vintage tool care sheet is included.

Condition

This is a user-grade vintage saw in very good condition for its age:

• Plate is straight with no kinks, bends, or “hinges.”
• Original Victory eagle and Liberty Bell etch is strong and fully legible.
• Steel shows an even gray patina with scattered staining and small dark spots; no deep pitting along the toothline.
• Handle is solid with no structural cracks, only light marks from normal use.
• Screws and medallion are tight and secure, with minor cosmetic wear.

I don’t remove all of a tool’s history—expect honest age and patina, not a mirror-polished modern finish.

Restoration work performed

This saw has been carefully cleaned, tuned, and put back into working order: 1. Plate degreased and lightly cleaned with non-woven abrasive and oil, working lengthwise to remove active rust while preserving patina and the factory etch. 2. Plate treated with Ballistol, then finished with a thin coat of paste wax for corrosion protection. 3. Teeth lightly jointed and sharpened with an extra-slim triangular file, maintaining the existing 11 TPI crosscut geometry. 4. Toothline lightly stoned to remove burrs and even the set. 5. Handle cleaned, then refreshed with boiled linseed oil and a beeswax balm for a smooth, dry, non-glossy grip. 6. Saw test-cut in softwood to confirm it starts easily, tracks straight, and cuts cleanly.

Ideal use

• Excellent as a working vintage crosscut saw for fine shop work where a lighter plate and finer teeth shine.
• Also well suited for display in a hand-tool shop, office, or woodworking-themed space thanks to the strong Victory etch and carved handle.
