Detailed Description

Tool Details

Traditional plier-style saw set used to bend alternating hand-saw teeth to establish the proper set and kerf. This example has an adjustable anvil, depth adjustment and spring-loaded return mechanism.

No manufacturer name was found during restoration. Matching “O” marks are visible inside both handles, but I have not been able to confidently attribute those marks to a particular maker.

The tool measures approximately 7 inches long.

For Etsy dating I have selected the 1910s. The exact date and manufacturer are unknown; based on its construction and design, I believe it is an early-20th-century tool, approximately 1900s–1920s.

Condition

Good restored vintage condition with substantial original character. The steel retains age-related staining, dark patina, scattered pitting, scratches and normal working wear.

There is an old break/chip on one side of the channel that guides the adjustable anvil assembly. This is clearly shown in the close-up photographs. The remaining portion retains the adjustment hardware and the mechanism remains functional. No attempt was made to conceal or reconstruct this damage.

The return mechanism operates properly after cleaning and lubrication.

Please examine all photographs carefully; they form an important part of the condition description.

Restoration

This saw set was disassembled as appropriate, cleaned of accumulated oxidation and grime, mechanically inspected, lubricated and reassembled. The goal was to preserve its aged working appearance rather than grind or polish away its history.

No maker’s mark was uncovered beyond the matching “O” marks inside the handles.

Ideal Use

A good addition for:

  • Traditional hand-saw maintenance
  • Vintage woodworking tool collections
  • Carpenter or saw-filer collections
  • Workshop display
  • Antique tool decor
  • Gift for a traditional woodworker

Vintage tools should always be inspected and adjusted by the user before putting them into service.

Care Guide Included

A printed vintage-tool care guide is included with the saw set, covering basic cleaning, lubrication, rust prevention and storage.
