Light age pitting and color variation in the iron, consistent with decades of use
Interior of the last’s socket previously had some rust; now cleaned and stabilized
Sits flat and stable on the base

Restoration work performed

Carefully wiped down with mineral spirits to remove shop dust and surface grime while preserving the original finish
Rust in the last’s inner socket treated locally with Evapo-Rust using a wick method so the outer finish stayed untouched
Socket rinsed, dried thoroughly, then given a light film of oil for protection
Entire piece finished with a thin coat of paste wax and hand-buffed to a dry satin sheen
