Antique Cobbler Shoe Last Stand 23 Inch Tall Champion Cast Iron Shoemaker Tool Industrial Decor

An unusually tall antique Champion cast iron cobbler’s shoe last stand by B. Mall M. Co. of South Milwaukee. Standing approximately 23” tall before the removable shoe form is installed, this substantial 8.5 lb piece has far more visual presence than the smaller bench-style cobbler stands commonly found today. Cleaned and preserved rather than refinished, with its aged black surface, casting texture and working wear intact.
Detailed description
This is an impressive large-scale piece of early American shoe-repair equipment and an excellent piece of industrial decor.
Unlike the smaller cobbler stands frequently encountered, this example measures approximately 23” tall even before the removable shoe last is installed. With the last mounted, its long upright and sweeping iron shoe form create a striking sculptural silhouette. At approximately 8.5 pounds, it also has the substantial feel you’d expect from an old working shop tool.
Raised cast lettering on the upright identifies B. MALL M. CO. SO. MIL., for B. Mall M. Co. of South Milwaukee, along with the CHAMPION name. TThe removable shoe form is marked “BL,” a B. Mall form-size designation.
Condition
Good antique working/display condition with genuine wear from its previous life in a shoe-repair environment.
The iron retains its dark aged surface with scattered finish loss, oxidation, casting irregularities, scratches, pitting and working wear. The underside/working surface of the removable last shows particularly obvious wear and surface oxidation. These characteristics have intentionally been retained rather than ground or refinished.
Please review the close-up photographs carefully; they are intended to show the actual surface and condition.
Restoration / Preservation
This piece received a conservative shop cleaning intended to stabilize and preserve it rather than make it look new. Dirt and loose oxidation were removed, the iron was cleaned and treated, and the surface was protected while retaining the original casting texture, dark coloration and signs of use.
It has not been stripped and repainted or polished into a reproduction-looking finish.
A printed vintage-tool care sheet is included with purchase.
Display & Use
At roughly 23” tall before installation of the shoe form, this isn’t a small shelf trinket. It makes an unusually substantial vertical display piece for:
- Industrial or workshop decor
- Entryway or console displays
- Shoe or boot store decor
- Cobbler / shoemaker collections
- Leatherworking shops
- Vintage trade-tool collections
- Rustic farmhouse interiors
- Offices, studios or retail displays
It remains a genuine old working tool, but its impressive scale and sculptural shape make it particularly well suited to display.
