Vintage Columbus Ohio gate hinge

Vintage heavy steel gate hinge made in Columbus, Ohio, cleaned and sealed while preserving its original industrial patina. The hinge features a circular “NSTEDT / COLUMBUS O / MADE IN U.S.A.” logo and a raised 22 / 84 casting panel, and it still swings smoothly, making it a great piece of salvaged hardware for barn doors, shop walls, or rustic industrial decor.

This is a genuine vintage steel gate hinge from a Columbus, Ohio maker, marked with a circular logo that reads “NSTEDT / COLUMBUS O / MADE IN U.S.A.” along with a raised “22 / 84” casting panel on the opposite plate. It was salvaged, then hand-cleaned in the shop to remove loose rust and grime while leaving the original casting texture and patina intact.

The hinge is a heavy offset pattern with wide rectangular mounting plates and a substantial center knuckle. It opens and closes freely and has a solid, weighty feel in the hand. For structural or safety-critical uses the buyer should evaluate it for their own project, but it’s ideal as an industrial accent on a barn or garden gate, or simply hung on the wall as a piece of old-school hardware.

Finish work was kept honest and reversible: loose rust was removed with a wire wheel, WD-40, and a burgundy 3M pad in the tight corners. The metal was then wiped with light mineral oil and finished with a thin coat of paste wax for a dry, low-sheen surface that still shows the casting marks, numbers, and age spots. No paint or clear coat was added.
