Vintage Stanley No. 18 adjustable-mouth block plane, likely from the 1910s, cleaned, sharpened, tuned, and ready for use or display. This 6-inch Stanley hand plane retains strong visual appeal with a knuckle-joint cap marked PAT. 2-18-13 and includes a printed care sheet with purchase.

Detailed description

Offered here is a vintage Stanley No. 18 adjustable-mouth block plane, a desirable 6-inch standard-angle block plane from the early 20th century. This example is marked STANLEY on the body and STANLEY / PAT. 2-18-13 on the knuckle-joint cap, with a period Stanley iron. Based on the configuration and iron mark, this plane is best described as dating to the 1910s, likely circa 1912–1918.

This plane has been processed with a light, preservation-minded restoration. It was disassembled, cleaned, lapped, sharpened, oiled, waxed, reassembled, and tuned. There was no active rust requiring aggressive treatment. I used a homemade Renaissance-wax-style protective wax in place of standard paste wax. The goal was clean, stable, usable condition without over-restoring it.

Condition is very good vintage overall. The body measures about 6 inches long, confirming the No. 18 size. The adjustable mouth functions, the brass front knob presents well, the iron appears full and sharpened, and the plane is complete. It shows honest age and use wear including scratches, dark staining and spotting on the sole, finish wear under the cap area, and cosmetic wear to the cap and sides. This is a good candidate for a user-grade Stanley block plane, a woodworking gift, or shelf/display in a tool collection. It will ship carefully packed, and I include a printed care sheet with all tools.
