Vintage No 5 1/2 Jack Plane Shapleigh Diamond Edge Corrugated Sole Woodworking Tool
Vintage Shapleigh Diamond Edge No. 5 1/2 corrugated jack plane, cleaned, stabilized, sharpened, tuned, and tested. This larger 15” bench plane has a 2 1/4” iron, corrugated sole, original Diamond Edge marked tote, and honest age/patina from prior shop use. It is taking nice shavings and includes a printed care sheet.
Detailed Description
This is a vintage Shapleigh Diamond Edge No. 5 1/2 corrugated jack plane, a larger bench plane size suited for general stock removal, flattening, and traditional hand-tool woodworking.
The plane has been cleaned, derusted where appropriate, oiled, waxed, sharpened, tuned, and tested. It is taking nice shavings. The sole measures approximately 15” long, the iron measures approximately 2 1/4” wide, the frog is marked 5 1/2, and the lever cap is marked 2 1/4, all matching the No. 5 1/2 size.
The corrugated sole shows remaining dark patina, staining, and scattered pitting from age and prior rust, but the bearing surfaces have been cleaned and the plane is functional. The body retains an honest aged shop appearance rather than a polished-new finish.
The wooden knob and tote are original-style vintage wood with visible age cracks that have been stabilized. The most noticeable repair is a stabilized crack at the front lower edge of the tote between the front screw and edge. The Diamond Edge marking on the tote remains visible and was preserved during cleaning. Please review photos closely; this is a restored vintage user tool, not a mint collector-grade plane.

- Small cracks in knob and tote stabilized
- Tote crack stabilized but still visible
- Iron sharpened and chipbreaker fitted
- Reassembled, oiled, waxed, tuned, and shaving-tested
