Vintage Record SP4 Smoothing Plane

New other

New old stock / apparently unused Record SP4 smoothing plane still in its original retail blister package. The plane has not been removed, sharpened, tuned, or used by me. Original packaging has substantial age/storage wear and multiple cracks/breaks in the clear plastic blister. Please review all photos closely for package condition. Because the package remains unopened, the plane has not been function-tested or fully inspected outside the packaging.

Description

Vintage Record SP4 smoothing plane, made in Sheffield, England, still in its original retail blister packaging.

This is an apparently unused/new-old-stock example that has been preserved as found rather than opened for cleaning, sharpening, or tuning. The original package identifies it as a 10” / 254 mm smoothing plane fitted with a 2” / 50 mm tungsten-vanadium steel cutter.

The packaging also identifies features including a cast grey iron body, brass lever-cap locking nut, brass adjusting nut, lateral cutter adjustment and composite handle and knob.

Condition

The plane itself appears unused through the packaging. It remains packaged and has not been removed or function-tested.

Please note that the original packaging is not mint. The clear plastic blister has multiple cracks, splits and broken areas, including damage around the tote/rear portion and along the edges. The cardboard backing has edge wear, creasing, staining/soiling and general storage wear.

The packaging damage is shown closely in the photographs and should be considered part of the condition of this item.

I have intentionally not repaired the blister with tape or adhesive and have not opened the package, preserving it in its present state.

Please study the photographs carefully. They form an important part of the condition description, particularly regarding the cracked and damaged original packaging.

The plane will be packed carefully for shipment with particular attention to protecting the already-fragile vintage blister package.
