Vintage Circle-U Block Plane – Made in USA
A compact vintage American block plane restored as a functional woodworking hand tool rather than refinished to look new. The body is marked MADE IN USA and carries a U inside a circle, along with casting marks 3 and 4. The iron is also marked MADE IN USA, and the underside of the lever cap carries a plain U.
The exact manufacturer has not been definitively established. Similar Circle-U tools are generally associated with mid-20th-century American production, and some collector research attributes the mark to Plomb/Penens contract manufacture. Because that attribution is not conclusive for this particular plane, it is being sold simply as an unknown-maker Circle-U American block plane.
Condition: Good restored vintage working condition. The cast-iron body retains considerable original texture, patina, staining, scratches, oxidation marks, and other evidence of decades of use. The sole shows remaining discoloration and pitting/marks after lapping; it was restored for function rather than ground excessively to remove every cosmetic imperfection. The original wooden front knob remains in place and shows age, color variation, wear, small marks, and a visible age check at its base. Please examine the close-up photographs for condition.
Restoration performed: The plane was disassembled and cleaned, with rust and accumulated grime removed while preserving its vintage character. The sole was lapped, the iron cleaned and sharpened, and the plane was reassembled, lubricated, waxed, tuned, and tested.
For use or display: A useful size for trimming, fitting, edge work, chamfering, and general woodworking tasks. It also makes an attractive piece for a vintage workshop or American hand-tool collection.

A printed vintage-tool care sheet is included with the plane to help the new owner maintain the restored surfaces.
