Vintage No. 51 double-handle cabinet scraper, cleaned, sharpened, tuned and tested for functional woodworking use. The maker is unknown; visible casting/part markings include No 51, 640, 694 and U. Original black finish, age wear and patina have been preserved rather than refinished.
Detailed Description
Vintage No. 51 Double-Handle Cabinet Scraper
A distinctive vintage cast-metal woodworking scraper with two checkered integral handles and an adjustable cutter. This example has been conservatively restored with the goal of preserving its working history while returning it to functional condition.
The maker has not been identified. The body carries a raised No. 51, along with additional 640, 694 and U casting/part markings. No manufacturer’s name or trademark was found during disassembly and cleaning, so I am intentionally selling it as an unmarked vintage tool rather than attributing it to a particular manufacturer.

Condition
Good restored vintage working condition.
The body retains portions of its original black finish along with visible finish loss, scratches, discoloration, oxidation staining and other wear from its previous working life. These surfaces were deliberately preserved rather than stripped or repainted.
Both handles are intact and retain strong checkering. The blade and hardware are complete and the adjustment mechanism operates properly.

Restoration
The scraper was disassembled and carefully cleaned. Surface rust and accumulated grime were removed while preserving surviving original finish and patina.
The original-style steel cutter was cleaned and its existing cutting bevel was sharpened by hand rather than aggressively reground. The mechanism was cleaned, lubricated and reassembled, and exposed metal was protected after restoration.
Most importantly, this isn’t being sold simply as cleaned-up shop decor: I tested it on wood after sharpening and adjustment, and it produces actual curled wood shavings.
