Large vintage COES-style monkey wrench with heavy early forged character, dark stable patina, and working adjuster. This 21-inch wrench opens to about 4 inches and makes a strong industrial display piece or light-duty usable old tool, with honest age wear and one broken lower guide tab.

Detailed description

Large vintage monkey wrench in the older COES pattern, measuring about 21 inches long with approximately 4 inches of maximum jaw opening. No maker mark was found during cleanup, so it is being sold as an unmarked vintage COES-style wrench rather than a signed example.

This wrench was acquired in seized condition and the adjuster was carefully freed and worked back into operation. The threads now turn and the jaw adjusts open fully and closed within 1/4 inch. The finish was kept conservative to preserve the aged surface, dark patina, and forged look rather than over-cleaning it.

Condition is solid but clearly vintage. It shows moderate to heavy pitting, rust texture, edge wear, and general age marks throughout. One lower stabilizing/guide tab is broken off on the movable jaw area. It still adjusts and functions, but that break is a real condition issue and is reflected in the pricing and should be reviewed in the photos. Best suited for collection, display, prop use, or light-duty period-appropriate use rather than hard modern shop abuse.

Restoration performed included freeing the seized adjuster, cleaning the mechanism, removing active crud and corrosion, and protecting the metal with oil/wax while preserving the old surface. No welding or structural rebuild was performed.

A great piece for industrial decor, farmhouse display, antique tool collections, machinist or blacksmith shop styling, or gift giving for someone who appreciates early hand tools.

Ships carefully packed. A printed care sheet is included with all tools.
