It takes clean shavings and doubles as a handsome rustic display piece for a shop, office, or farmhouse wall.
Detailed Description
Tool details
- Wood-body transitional jointer plane with Bailey-pattern frog, knob, and tote
- Approx. 20.25” long hardwood body with inset steel wear plate ahead of the mouth
- Faint Keen Kutter logo on the iron (logo is partially visible but not fully legible)
- Standard depth adjuster and lever cap for easy fine tuning
- Weight and length make it a nice long jointer for flattening boards or as character decor
Condition
- Body sits flat on a reference surface; no through-cracks, just age checks at the ends and one visible side check that does not go through
- Mouth area clean and not blown out; steel wear plate is tight and solid
- Knob shows age wear and small cracks at the base that have been stabilized
- Tote shows wear and color variation from long use with no structural breaks
- Metal parts retain an even, dark working patina with light pitting and marks from use
- Keen Kutter logo on the iron is ghosted but present; exact era can’t be confirmed
Restoration performed
- Fully disassembled, degreased, and cleaned by hand – no wire-wheel abuse
- Depth adjuster screw and brass wheel cleaned, lubricated, and now turning smoothly
- Iron and cap iron cleaned and mated; edge reground and honed sharp, removing small chips
- Sole lightly trued and smoothed while preserving the original geometry and patina
- Wood body cleaned and given a light oil and wax finish for a dry, natural feel
- Knob cracks wicked with thin CA glue for stability; knob and tote lightly sanded and oiled/waxed
- Final test cuts made on a long board – plane takes fine, consistent shavings
